Delete Your Account

Last updated: September 5, 2026

Deleting your account from inside the app

If you still have Scarla installed, this is the fastest route and takes effect immediately:

  • Open Scarla and go to the Profile tab
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account
  • Confirm when prompted

Your Scarla account and the account-linked app data listed below are removed when the request succeeds. This cannot be undone. Separate usage, billing and measurement records are explained below.

If you have already uninstalled the app

You do not need to reinstall Scarla to delete your account. Email us from the address associated with your account and we will handle it for you:

  • Write to hello@scarla.app with the subject Delete my account
  • Send it from the email address you signed up with, so we can verify the request
  • If you signed in with Apple or Google, tell us which one you used

We action every request within 30 days, and in practice usually within a few working days. We will confirm by email once it is done.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your email address, display name, and sign-in credentials
  • Your listening progress, saved and finished audiobooks, bookmarks, and listening stats
  • Your taste preferences and followed narrators
  • Your notification preferences and any device push tokens
  • Your referral code and referral activity

What we keep, and why

Account deletion does not automatically erase every record. The following records have separate retention or deletion processes:

  • Purchase and billing records. Subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google, never by us, and we do not hold your payment details. Records of a transaction are retained by the relevant app store, and by us where tax and accounting law requires it.
  • First-party usage events. These use a separate random installation identifier, without a stored link to your account. Deleting an account therefore does not automatically locate these events. Our retention process removes raw events older than 90 days. Reports that no longer identify a person may be retained.
  • Measurement-provider records. Events already sent to Google Analytics for Firebase or Meta are not automatically retracted by deleting your Scarla account. RevenueCat may also retain subscription records. Contact us to request a review of information held by these providers; we may need additional identifiers to locate it.

Turning off optional measurement

In app versions with Profile > Privacy choices, you can turn off Google app analytics or Meta advertising measurement without deleting your account. The app stops sending new events for that service and requests removal of matching identifiers used for RevenueCat reporting. Server changes require connectivity and can be delayed. This is separate from requesting deletion of information already sent. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Cancelling a subscription is separate

Deleting your Scarla account does not cancel an active subscription, because we do not control your billing. Cancel it first in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, otherwise it may continue to renew.
